Behind the lens
I am Georgia. Before photography I danced full time, which is where I learned that the thing an audience sees should look effortless no matter what is happening in the wings. A wedding day works the same way. My job is to keep my head, stay out of the choreography, and let the day look like itself.
The work is documentary first: candid, honest and romantic. I photograph what actually happens rather than rebuilding it afterwards, and I direct only where directing helps — family groups, the portraits you will want in twenty years, the ten minutes that need someone to take charge. The rest is yours.
New York is most of my calendar: Manhattan, Brooklyn, City Hall, the boat on the Hudson, the restaurant with thirty people in it. I travel for the rest, from upstate to Texas to anywhere with an airport nearby. I take a limited number of weddings a year so that no couple is a date in a diary.
Favourite parts of a wedding day, if you are asking: the parent dances, the recessional, and the cake. Elsewhere I am reliably in favour of Ralph's Coffee, tiramisu, vintage dresses and an afternoon at The Met.
